Chief Randy Mundy began his career in law enforcement in Griffin in 1991. While there, he served in several capacities to include supervising the agency’s narcotics, SWAT, accreditation, and community policing teams.
In 2007, Mundy accepted a position with the Fairburn Police Department where he served as Division Commander while creating the agency’s first Office of Professional Standards and earning State Certification honors.
In 2016, Mundy was appointed Chief of Police in Palmetto where he remained until taking over as Chief in Tyrone on January 28, 2019.
He holds an Associate of Science in Criminal Justice from Southern Crescent Technical College, a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Saint Leo University, and a Master of Public Administration from Columbus State University.
He is a graduate of The Georgia Law Enforcement Command College at Columbus State University, The Georgia Professional Management Program at Columbus State University, The Southern Police Institute’s Administrative Officers Course at the University of Louisville, The Management Development Program at the University of Georgia’s Carl Vinson Institute of Government, and The Law Enforcement Executive Development Seminar with The Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Mundy is an active member of The Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police.
In 2015, Kentucky Governor Steven L. Beshear named Chief Mundy as an Honorary Kentucky Colonel.
Chief Mundy was born in Gary, Indiana but moved to Fayette County in his early teens. He attended Booth Middle and McIntosh High School. He is co-founder of the Tyrone Strongman Contest held annually at Shamrock Park and has trained many local athletes for powerlifting and strongman events. Mundy also serves as a community coach for The Georgia High School Association.
